Materials Day 2015 - Soft Materials

The Materials Day is organised biannually by the Department of Materials at ETH Zurich to bring together faculty, researchers and students with representatives from industry and media. This one-day symposium featuring talks and poster presentations offers a platform to exchange scientific information and network among the materials community.

The 2015 Materials Day on 25 November 2015 gave an overview on Soft Materials and their fabrication using a variety of building blocks, from nanoparticles to polymeric systems, introducing new experimental techniques and strategies to create novel materials with unprecedented mechanical and optical properties.

The following internationally renowned speakers gave insights into the fascinating world of Soft Materials:

  • Prof. Luis Liz Marzàn (CIC biomaGUNE, Spain)
  • Prof. Steven P. Armes (University of Sheffield, United Kingdom)
  • Prof. Steven Granick (Institute for Basic Science, Republic of Korea)
  • Prof. Gerry Fuller (Stanford University, USA)
  • Prof. Costantino Creton (ESPCI, France)
  • Prof. Lucio Isa (ETH / MaP)
  • Prof. Jan Vermant (ETH / MaP)

This year's Staudinger-Durrer Award went to Prof. Dieter Richter from FZ-Jülich (Germany).
