  1. The School for Continuing Education makes a preselection by checking all applications for completeness and fulfilment of formal criteria according to the application prerequisites and admission requirements.
  2. Each application is assessed and the final selection according to the admission rules is made by the programme management. The final admission decision is communicated in written form by the School for Continuing Education.

This process is running continuously.

Admissions decision, matriculation and withdrawal

You will receive a definitive written admission decision by the School for Continuing Education within eight weeks after submission of your application. With this, you are definitively accepted and matriculated at ETH Zurich. There is no need to confirm your participation. If, however, you decide to withdraw, we will need a written confirmation of this by the deadline mentioned in the admission letter. The withdrawal notice shall be sent to . Withdrawal later than 60 days before the start of the programme is subject to a fee of CHF 8,000.

Persons who decide not to participate receive a written confirmation of cancellation.

Programme participants are responsible for their fees and living costs. No scholarships are offered for this programme.

Fees

The fee for the ETH Sabbatical | CAS ETH AMaP totally amounting to CHF 16,600 comprises programme costs plus one set of tuition fees (CHF 730). The whole fee is invoiced during the first semester of study (October or March) during which the ETH Sabbatical is started.

Invoicing address

Invoices are sent by email to the ETH email address.
You may change the address on the invoice yourself. If a semester invoice should carry the employer’s address (c/o address), you may enter this at www.adressen.ethz.ch under "Separate mailing address for semester invoice". The changing of the invocing address has to be done (idealley) before the invoice has been sent.

Application fee

ETH Zurich charges registration and administration fees for every online application for a continuing education programme. This fee must be paid by credit card.
For applicants holding a degree from ETH or a Swiss university the charge is CHF 50; for applicants from other universities, it is CHF 150.

Withdrawal fee

If you wish to withdraw your application before or after admission, please inform inform in writing immediately.
Please note that withdrawal later than 60 days before the start of the programme is subject to a fee of CHF 8,000. This withdrawal fee is programme-specific, is listed in the admission letter, and is binding.

Other costs, e.g. living costs in Zurich

CHF 24,000 should be calculated for living costs per year. Applicants from countries subject to visa requirements must be able to document that they have the corresponding financial resources. Please refer any related queries to the School for Continuing Education only.

Application to and start of the programme are possible at any time.

If you do not live in Switzerland, you should find out about Swiss entry formalities and the required permits as soon as possible.

The prerequisite for programme admission is an engineering or natural sciences Master's degree (or equivalent), recognised by ETH Zurich, plus at least 5 years of professional experience in the field of materials, process and manufacturing technologies.

Tuition languages are German and/or English. C1-level is required in either German or English, and an advanced command of skills in the other language is highly desired. For help in estimating your language level, please refer to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. Admission is based upon the personal dossier of the applicant. Highly qualified applicants who do not fulfil the prerequisites mentioned above may be admitted in exceptional cases if they can prove that they have the appropriate professional background and additional qualifications in the required fields.

There is no automatic entitlement to admission.

Admission requires a letter of support from the current employer.

How to apply

Application Process

  • Step 1
    Please apply online starting from the School for Continuing Education (SCE) website and upload all mandatory additional documents with your application. The application deadline for the programme can be found here.  

  • Step 2
    Pay the non-refundable application fee with your credit card. For applicants holding a degree from ETH or a Swiss university, the charge is CHF 50. Applicants from other universities pay CHF 150.

  • Step 3
    You will receive an email confirmation that your application has been received and will be evaluated.
