The program of the symposium which took place on 9 June 2016, included talks and numerous posters giving insights into the research projects our young scientists are working on. The abstracts of the talks and posters can be found in our Downloadsymposium booklet (PDF, 4.7 MB). The symposium not only featured a diversified scientific program, furthermore, it offered plenty of opportunities to network with colleagues who share a common interest in the understanding and development of novel materials and next generation process technologies.

Each year, MaP awards a prize for the best interdisciplinary PhD thesis which has been completed in the past year within the MaP community. In a competitive pre-selection process, Dr. Ivo Leibacher (D-MAVT), Dr. Arabella Mauri (D-MAVT), Dr. Christian Peters (D-MAVT) and Dr. Gianvito Vilé (D-CHAB) have been nominated as finalists for the MaP Award 2016 and were invited to present the highlights of their PhD projects. We cordially congratulate Dr. Gianvito Vilé who is the winner of the MaP Award 2016 and acknowledge the high quality and excellence of PhD theses of all finalists.

In the competition for the Poster Award, the jury has nominated three finalists to creatively pitch their posters in 2 minute flash presentations. The audience elected Luca Hirt (D-ITET) as the best poster presenter, while Patrik Rohner (D-MAVT) and Lisa Poulikakos (D-MAVT) won the second and third places, respectively.

The symposium participants were furthermore given the opportunity to select the most stunning research image out of 52 image submissions. From the impressive Image Contest gallery, the images by Pedro Castro Fernandez (D-MAVT), Steven Wang (D-HEST) and Patrick Reissner (D-MAVT) were chosen as the winners.
